Supriya has not only figured what a fulfilling career means for her but she has received a job offer during her interview.
Unemployed with 3 years experience in Fashion PR.
After spending 3 years in PR and fashion Supriya wasn’t certain that the career she had wasn’t for her. However she didn’t have a clue what else she could do. She reached the point in her life where she felt very lost, so she was looking for someone to help her to brainstorm her long term goals and needed help “selling herself” - on her CV, LinkedIn profile, cover letters and in during interviews. Supriya was also hoping to improve her interview and networking skills as well as boost her self-confidence.
The key challenges she was facing were:
• Feeling unsatisfied with her career but having a very limited understanding of what else she could do
• Lacking of direction, focus and purpose in her life – feeling lost
• Lack of understanding how to leverage her previous work experience and make a successful career transition
• She didn’t understand how to “sell herself” effectively while writing cover letters and answering application and interview questions
• She negative interview experience which made her feel nervous about attending new ones
• Low self-esteem
Supriya was lacking direction and purpose, as well as having lack of energy. She viewed coaching sessions as a way to establish a sense of purpose. She was hoping to identify a career path which would ensure her having a job that she would be excited about everyday, as well as being excited to talk about it when meeting new people. She also wanted her new career to give a good work life balance and find a job that will allow me to travel for work. So we started our coaching with exploring her professional and personal values which helped her to identify potential careers options to match her strengths. Through the carefully designed exercises I helped Supriya clarify her desires, dreams and ambitions and turn them into precise goals. Together we divided her goals into short-term and long-term goals After a few sessions with me she was able to identify what a fulfilling and meaningful career looks like for her and together we defined short term, medium and long term career goals, followed by a clear and tangible action plan ensuring she knew how to get there. After 4 sessions Supriya has finally stopped feeling lost and had a clear vision of what she wanted to do.
Once the new career direction was discovered, we worked on improving her CV and LinkedIn profile. Together we identified transferable skills that would help her to break into a new industry. We also discussed networking strategies to help her identify more job opportunities. I also provided her with practical tools to boost her confidence to ensure she networks effectively. Then I helped her to write strong and targeted cover letters by teaching her how to demonstrate a genuine interest in her chosen industry, company and position and that she was the best candidate for the job. I also revised all her cover letters and applications to increase her chances of securing interviews.
Interviews were another area of Supriya’s concerns. Previously having had negative experience she was feeling very anxious about starting the interviewing process again. We had a few mock interview sessions during which she was able to practice her answers. I demonstrated to her how to express genuine motivation for her new chosen profession and how to convince interviewers that she is the best person for a job. My feedback on how to improve her answers ensured that Supriya’s answers were top notch which made her feel more confident. She stopped questioning herself whether her answers were good enough so she finally was able to sound more convincing during interviews. I also helped her to prepare for an interview by identifying the questions she will be asked which led her to receiving a job offer within the first 30 mins of the job interview!
My coaching empowered Supriya to discover her strengths, interest and identify what a fulfilling career means to her. Half way of our coaching Supriya stopped feeling lost and gained a sense of direction. I also helped her to better understand how to leverage her previous work experience and sell herself better. She has also become more confident, she got over interview fear and received a job offer in the first 30 mins of the interview.
“Great news - I got the job on the spot this morning. They asked a lot of similar questions to what we discussed yesterday so the session was extremely useful - thank you again so much for all of your help."
