RAHIL'S FEEDBACK
Rahil has secured Portfolio Evaluation Associate position at Fisher Investments Europe with no prior experience in finance.
Graduate with BSc in Accounting and Finance, unemployed
Being a recent graduate Rahil was lost in what career direction to pursue. He has already tried to apply for a number of positions and even attended one assessment centre which he failed. He knew he didn’t know how to succeed in the recruitment process but most importantly he was no longer sure what companies and positions he should focus on. He was worried that lack of work experience might stop him from securing a graduate scheme. Having very little experience his CV looked empty which made him worried that he won’t be able even to secure a job interview. At the same time he felt anxious about attending interviews and assessment centres as he was always shy and lacked confidence.
The key challenges he was facing were:
• He lacked career direction
• He didn’t have any work experience to add to his CV
• He lacked confidence and ability to demonstrate he is a suitable candidate
• He didn’t have a targeted job search plan and lacked overall understanding of graduate recruitment process
We started with identifying potential careers options with the financial industry that matched his strengths. Then I’ve facilitated the creation of a targeted action plan to aid him in achieving his career goals. I’ve helped to enhance his CV by emphasising the skills his targeted companies were after. I showed Rahil how to demonstrate a genuine interest in her chosen industry, company and position. I also taught him how to demonstrate he was the best candidate for the job and I revised all his cover letters and applications. I helped him to prepare for every step of the recruitment process including interview and assessment centre practices. He got well equipped on how to answer motivational, competency, strength and commercial awareness questions and how to succeed in case studies, in-tray exercises, presentations and group exercise. We also worked on boosting his confidence and self-belief which helped him to succeed in interviews and later in assessment centres. The biggest turning point in Rahil’s journey was his developed ability to demonstrate a genuine passion and enthusiasm during interviews – something he was praised a lot and something that helped him to secure a graduate position despite the fact he had no prior work experience in finance.
My coaching empowered Rahil to identify what area in finance he wants to build his career in and I helped him to define a strategy and a targeted action plan. Working with me Rahil was able to develop essential job hunting skills which led in securing a Portfolio Evaluation Associate position at Fisher Investments Europe – his dream company. In addition, he also reached final stages of recruitment in HSBC and RBS but he decided to accept the offer from Fisher Investments Europe.
“Thank you for all the help you gave me. I really feel I have improved a lot from interviews to general confidence.”
