Being a newly qualified lawyer Francesca was looking to move to a bigger firm in London. Even though receiving interview invitations wasn’t the issue for her, she wasn’t able to move past the first stage interview. Feeling nervous and not being to tackle difficult technical questions would get into her way. She felt that each time after getting a question wrong everything would just fall apart.
The key challenges she was facing were:
• Lack of confidence
• Lack of techniques to deal with interview nervous
• Lack of ability to keep composure when things go slightly wrong in interviews
• In need of a constructive feedback on how to improving the structure to her interview answers
• In need for mock interview practices
• Lack of strong and convincing answers for motivational, technical and competency questions
• Lack of understanding how to sell herself better during interviews
Our 3 coaching sessions consisted of firstly discussing Francesca’s answers to motivational, competency, strength-based and technical questions. After receiving my feedback on how to improve her answers we worked on redrafting them together. I also demonstrated to Francesca how to express genuine motivation for her chosen law firm, how to structure answers to competency questions and how to convince interviewers that she is the best person for a job. Our interview practice also focused on her body language and suggestions on how to appear more enthusiastic and engaging during interviews.
My coaching equipped Francesca with practical tools on how to overcome interview nervousness and maintain composure when dealing with unexpected during interviews, which helped to boost her confidence. She has also prepared strong interview answers to be used in any interviews in addition to developing the ability to sound more convincing during interviews. Mock interview practices with me enabled Francesca to move to a mid-tier City law firm in London to take on more challenging legal work.
