Ben made a career change and has secured a Management Consultant Position at Chaucer.
Client Development Manager at at the world's 3’rd primary research provider to the financial services industry.
Ben reached out to me as he wanted to change his career. After spending 3 years at the world's 3’rd primary research provider to the financial services industry he was looking for a more challenging career where he could utilise his experience in project management and client engagement. Ben was particularly interested in management consulting but was concerned that having no experience within the industry will be a major obstacle to break into the extremely competitive sector.
The key challenges he was facing were:
• He lacked experience in management consulting
• He lacked an understanding of how use her previous work experience to break into a new profession
• He lacked a CV which would emphasise his transferable skills and experience
• He lacked an overall understanding how to make himself more attractive for future employers
• He didn’t understand how to “sell himself” effectively while writing cover letters and answering application and interview questions
• He lacked experience in case study interviews
• He needed help to prepare for interviews
First of all, I helped Ben structure his career change and build a viable plan to target the roles he really wanted to pursue. Then we worked on identifying the transferable skills and experience that would enable him to make the transition easier. Then I helped Ben to emphasise these skills on his CV and cover letters. I also revised all his cover letters which straight away led to interview invitations.
Then we worked on developing Ben’s interview skills, especially focusing on case studies. We had a few mock interview sessions where I explained how to predict the questions he will be asked and during which he was able to practice her answers. I’ve helped him to create his unique personal story to emphasise his skillset and prepare examples to competency and strength based questions. My feedback on how to improve his answers ensured that Ben’s answers were top notch which made him feel more confident and sound more convincing during interviews.
My coaching has enabled Ben to break into the management consulting industry just after 5 months of coaching. Career change came with a better pay and more intellectually challenging work – something that he was very passionate about.
“I would highly recommend Evelina as a career coach as she proved throughout our sessions to be knowledgeable, hands-on and honest. She helped me structure my career pivot and build a viable plan to target the roles I really wanted to pursue. Throughout our sessions she demonstrated that she was well tuned in to the recruitment processes of blue-chip companies and other competitive industries for early careers and her guidance for interview coaching proved invaluable. Evelina's main USP is that she provides an action-oriented approach which I believe to be very beneficial to both graduates and those still in the early years of their career. Ultimately Evelina helped me secure the position I was targeting in the Management Consulting industry.”
